AERIS, as a spin-off of the UAB, is deeply committed to R & D. Below, some of the currently on-going research projects are presented.
- Project "Biological removal of nitrogen from reject water by means of nitrification via nitrite and autotrophic denitrification". This project is leading to the development of a computerized control system that enables the autonomous operation of ammonium treatment systems by means of partial nitrification, much cheaper than the conventional nitrification to nitrate process.
Advanced technologies for water treatment
- Project "Integration of physico-chemical and biological technologies for the treatment of industrial waters". The developement of a hybrid (physico-chemical + biological) technology for the treatment of liquid industrial pollutants is the objective of this project, with promising results in the treatment of waters with high organic loads and intense color.
- Project "Feasibility of using advanced packing materials and specific inocula for the biological purification of complex gaseous emissions. Optimization of operating parameters". The objective of this project is to assess the use of advanced materials as packing in biological deodorizing systems, allowing a more robust and economical operation.
- Project "Optimization and control of the biological desulphurization process of biogas through biotrickling filters". This project has enabled the development of an autonomous control system of biological biogas desulfurization systems which greatly reduces energy requirements and optimizes reagents and oxygen supply.
